Four winning artists in Newton Presbyterian Manor’s annual Art is Ageless® juried competition will be featured in the 2021 Art is Ageless calendar produced by PMMA (Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America).
Works by local winners are automatically entered into a masterpiece level competition with winning art from 15 other PMMA communities. The winners are featured in the Art is Ageless calendar with pull-out postcards and greeting cards.

“Neighbors,” a painting by Joey Giblin was named Best of Show – Amateur, and will appear in the calendar when it is released this fall. In addition to the painting, “Big Buffy,” a painting by Velera Adams, “Self-portrait,” a drawing by Walter Friesen, and “Sculptural Wire Tree,” a sculpture/3-D entry by Lois Hamilton, also will appear in the calendar when it is released this fall.

“Spilt Paint,” a fiber arts entry by Dr. Colin Bailey, “Fishing Buddies,” a quilting entry by Nancy Lewis, and “Jake’s Clothing,” a quilting entry by Margo Schrag, will be featured on the pull-out postcards in the 2021 calendar.
In addition, “Kansas Gold,” a drawing by Betty Duffy Eller, “Home for Christmas,” a Christmas entry by Rosie Goering, and “Cardinal Quest,” a photography entry by Phoebe Janzen, will appear on Art is Ageless greeting cards.
More than 160 entries were received for this year’s masterpiece competition.
“In my 22 years with the competition, Newton has never had a Best of Show winner, so we are thrilled for Joey and for the Newton exhibit,” said Noelle Dickinson, marketing director. “In this pandemic year, our local exhibit was only seen in person by those who live and work at Presbyterian Manor, but it brought an extra source of color and interest and life to our walls, our conversations and our souls. We love Art is Ageless season.”

Art is Ageless, open exclusively to people age 65 and older, is a copyrighted program of PMMA. For the competition, works must have been completed in the past five years.
“I know our artists would encourage anyone 65 or better to dust off their supplies and start creating for next spring’s competition. Most would even tell you that they don’t consider themselves artists, but we certainly do. Take a class. Try something new and share it with us,” said Noelle.
PMMA’s Art is Ageless program encourages Newton Presbyterian Manor residents and other area seniors to express their creativity through its annual competition, as well as art classes, musical and dramatic events, educational opportunities and current events discussions throughout the year.
Started in 1980, Art is Ageless is an extension of PMMA’s wellness programs, which focus on mental, physical, social and spiritual health. Residents and friends of PMMA’s Art is Ageless program are proving that art, in any form, is an ageless ambition.
