Emporia Presbyterian Manor announces Art is Ageless® winners

The winning artists in this year’s Art is Ageless competition at Emporia Presbyterian Manor were honored recently at reception.

Five artists took home blue ribbons in seven categories plus Best of Show. Two artists – Richard Bennett and Nancy McKinzie – were winners in multiple categories.

“We are honored to exhibit artwork by seniors,” said Ken Hanson, marketing director. “Art is Ageless is unique in featuring only the works of artists age 65 and older. Our artists prove that art, in any form, is an ageless ambition.”

The winners for 2015 are:

  • Best of Show: Richard Bennett – Out to Pasture
  • Christmas (amateur): Richard Bennett – Christmas in Marble
  • Drawing (amateur): Nancy McKinzie – Mountain Colors
  • Fiber Arts (amateur): Nancy McKinzie – Sunset in the Desert
  • Painting (professional): John King – Reflections
  • Painting (amateur): Paul Johnston – Canna Lily Flowers
  • Photography (amateur): Margaret Gunselman – Broomeweed at the Gate
  • Sculpture/3-D (amateur): Richard Bennett – Out to Pasture

For the competition, works must have been completed in the past five years. Local competition winners will join winners from 17 other Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America communities to be judged at the masterpiece level. Winning entries at the masterpiece level may be selected for publication in PMMA’s annual Art is Ageless calendar and note cards.

Started in 1980, Art is Ageless is an extension of Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America’s wellness programs, which focus on mental, physical, social and spiritual health. The program encourages Manor residents and other area seniors to express their creativity through the annual competition, as well as art classes, musical and dramatic events, educational opportunities and current events discussions throughout the year.
