The Arkansas City Presbyterian Manor partnered with the Alzheimer’s Association Central and Western Kansas Chapter to display a traveling exhibit, consisting of artwork created by those in the early stages of dementia through the JW and Reola Stark Arts & Inspiration Center. The exhibit was on display at Arkansas City Presbyterian Manor through April 10, 2014.
The Arts & Inspiration Center is a once monthly day group consisting of those in the early stages of Alzheimer’s or Dementia. The group meets at Wichita area locations such as The Old Cowtown Museum, The Wichita Art Museum, The Mid-America All Indian Center and Exploration Place for a day of engagement with the host exhibits, followed by an art project based on their experiences. The artworks created are then donated by participants for use in the traveling exhibits. The 17 pieces included in the exhibit depict the story and experiences of each artist. The program uses mediums such as watercolor, acrylic, pencil, poetry, collage and others to help the artists to express their view of the world around them. The works collectively make statements about life, about expectations and about what is possible.
