Three artists were chosen for the Peoples’ Choice award in the 2014 Art Is Ageless® contest held recently at Aberdeen Village.

Those selected by the residents for this recognition were Ed Duman for his colored pencil drawing, “Grandpa’s Workshop,” Esther Minter for her quilt, “Birds of the Air,” and Omar Schartz for an acrylic painting of John Denver titled “Rocky Mountain High.” A gift to the Good Samaritan Fund of $100 was provided by an anonymous donor in honor of these artists.

There were 38 items entered by 20 artists in this year’s Art Is Ageless contest.  Fritz Kramer, a Johnson County resident who has a Master of Fine Arts from Ohio University, served as the judge. The winning pieces of artwork were announced at a reception held on April 4th.

Winning first place in the Christmas category was a colored pencil drawing by Ed Duman called “Santa Claws.”  Beverly Bennett won first for her drawing, “Fall Harvest,” and Dixie Mohler received a blue ribbon in the fiber arts category for her Christmas afghan.

Esther Minter was the winner in two categories: a “Proud Rooster” apron in the needlework division, and her quilt, “Birds of the Air.” In the painting category, Joan Varner’s “Spring Bouquet” was the winning entry. Harry Acker’s, “Serenity,” won the photography award.

Carol Rondinelli, who has a weekly pencil drawing class for Aberdeen residents, entered two colored pencil drawings as a professional artist. Her “God Bless America” drawing was awarded a blue ribbon. The Best of Show award went to Omar Schartz for his acrylic drawing of John Lennon.
